The Weston Silver Eagles will face off against the De Soto Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Weston managed to slip by Melrose-Mindoro the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Silver Eagles lost 12-3 to the Mustangs on Saturday. The Silver Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Weston saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adyn Durst, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, De Soto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Seneca. On the bright side, the five- run effort marked the Pirates' highest-scoring contest to date.
Finn Wrobel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season.
In other batting news, Harris Krueger and Wills Davis did some serious damage despite the final result: Krueger went 3-for-4 with one run and one double, while Davis went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Krueger has hit this season.
De Soto's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Weston, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Weston has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like De Soto struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Weston came out on top in a nail-biter against De Soto when the teams last played on April 3rd, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Silver Eagles repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
