Baseball Game Preview: Tallwood Lions vs. Landstown Eagles

Tallwood hasn't had much luck against Landstown recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Tallwood Lions will take on the Landstown Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Tallwood will be strutting in after a win while Landstown will be coming in after a defeat.

Tallwood is headed out to face Landstown after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Tallwood put the hurt on Green Run with a sharp 16-1 victory on Tuesday.

Bryce Newell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on KJ Reynolds, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Tru Janeway, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Tallwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Run only posted an OBP of .364.

Meanwhile, Landstown had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 10-7 to Cox on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meetings.

Colin Kim was cooking despite his team's loss, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kyle Flora, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run.

Tallwood suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Landstown in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Tallwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
