Baseball Recap: Silver Valley Comes Up Short

Silver Valley had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 6-12-1 to make it five. They lost 11-1 to the Academy for Academic Excellence Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in March.

Silver Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Melcher, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Academy for Academic Excellence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.

On Academy for Academic Excellence's side, Bryson Lilly was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Lilly has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Ripley, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Noah Knecht was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

While Silver Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
