Basketball Recap: Southeast Halifax Trojans vs. Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets
Southeast Halifax was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 51-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-52 back in December of 2024.
Despite the defeat, Southeast Halifax saw an underclassman step up: sophomore O'Tavion Arrington posted 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Raquan Scott, who had ten points and six rebounds.
Bobby Hawkins Jr. was a one-man wrecking crew for Roanoke Rapids as he dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Roanoke Rapids is 5-2 when Hawkins Jr. posts ten or more rebounds, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Quentez Richardson, who posted 12 points and five assists.
Southeast Halifax's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Roanoke Rapids, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5.
Southeast Halifax will welcome Wilson Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeast Halifax is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season. As for Roanoke Rapids, they will head out to take on Bunn at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Roanoke Rapids also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 53.5 points per game.
