Basketball Recap: Raymondville Takes a Loss

If Raymondville was riding high fresh off their 61-41 takedown of Progreso last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Raymondville Bearkats took a 46-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lyford Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bearkats of the 69-47 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Raymondville still got an impressive performance from Colt Cavazos, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Mendez, who posted nine points and three blocks.

Raymondville's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-5. As for Lyford, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.

Raymondville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-49 defeat against Rio Hondo on the 28th. As for Lyford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-34 win against IDEA Sports Park on the 28th.
