Recap: Monarch Coyotes vs. Mullen Mustangs
The Monarch Coyotes and the Mullen Mustangs squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly the Monarch Coyotes had to settle for second. They took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. Monarch was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mullen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Monarch lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sienna Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Williams hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Luther, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Mullen's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makenzie Jones, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jones continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Keaton Arangua-egbert was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists and three steals.
Monarch's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Mullen, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8.
Monarch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mullen, they will face off against Grandview at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mullen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
