Football Recap: Columbus Takes a Loss + How To Watch

If Columbus was feeling good fresh off their 50-0 takedown of Miami on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Explorers fell 28-21 to the Southridge Spartans on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Explorers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Spartans are ranked 14th).

James Perrone produced another solid effort throwing for 294 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 32 yards and one score for Southridge. A healthy portion of Perrone's aerial production (113 yards to be exact) went to Jhakari Johnson, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Southridge, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will welcome Coral Gables at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers' defense has only allowed 14.4 points per game this season, so the Explorers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Southridge, they will face off against Southwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
