The Frederick Golden Eagles will challenge the Poudre Impalas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Frederick is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
On Thursday, Frederick didn't have too much trouble with Silver Creek as they won 28-14.
Frederick's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sonny Delpizzo, who rushed for 185 yards and one TD while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Preston Kissinger was another key passer, throwing for 112 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Frederick was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 287 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Frederick didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Reno Digesualdo.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poudre). They took their game on Thursday with ease, bagging a 45-7 victory over Greeley West.
Poudre's win came from a few key players Frederick will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mason Carter, who rushed for 65 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 168 yards and one TD on only 15 passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (126.5). Another player making a difference was Praise Oluniyi, who gained 173 total yards.
Frederick's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Poudre, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Everything came up roses for Frederick against Poudre in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-6 win. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Impalas have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
