Basketball Recap: Cocoa Takes a Loss

It was fun while it lasted, but Cocoa's undefeated season came to an end after six games on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 36-35 to the Viera Hawks. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Cocoa's loss came despite strong showings from Khamoni Agee and Gianna Conklin-Jones. Agee dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards, while Conklin-Jones went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Conklin-Jones is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Cocoa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Viera's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Demi Reck, who posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleyah Mcfadden, who had nine points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cocoa fell to 6-1. As for Viera, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Cocoa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-13 win against Rockledge on the 10th. As for Viera, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-41 victory against Heritage on the 6th.
