Softball Game Preview: Paulding Panthers vs. Van Wert Cougars

The Paulding Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Van Wert Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Paulding is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Edgerton hit Paulding with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly three runs.

Tia Mendez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Mariah Klopfenstein was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Civil Pumphrey, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Van Wert couldn't beat Ottawa-Glandorf on Friday even though they stacked six runs on them in the sixth inning. The Cougars fell 9-6 to the Titans. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Van Wert's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Paulding, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
