Softball Recap: Academic Magnet Comes Up Short

Academic Magnet scored the most runs they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against the Philip Simmons Iron Horses, falling 17-7. The loss leaves the Raptors still looking for their first win of the season.

Brianna Robinson put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). Robinson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season.

In other batting news, Isabella Costa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Mason Willis was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Academic Magnet's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Philip Simmons, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

While Academic Magnet had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
