Football Recap: West Jones Gets the Win

While West Jones's victory against Wayne County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs slipped by the War Eagles 49-48 on Friday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the War Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Jones to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tootie Lindsey, who threw for 329 yards and four touchdowns while completing 92.9% of his passes. Caleb Holmes helped Lindsey out on the ground, rushing for 160 yards and three scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry.

Another reason for the win was West Jones' imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Harrison Pierce was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles.

West Jones' victory bumped their record up to 4-1-1. As for Wayne County, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Jones will square off against Petal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wayne County, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Stone at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
