Boiling Springs made up a huge gap compared to their last game against West Perry, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bubblers never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Thursday. The Bubblers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
Matt Wilson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Boiling Springs is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Mason Labuda was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Josh Snyder, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between William Penn and South Western, and South Western kept the tradition alive. The Bearcats came up short against the Mustangs on Tuesday, falling 13-1. The Bearcats have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
William Penn saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luis Gonzalez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.
Boiling Springs has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for William Penn, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
William Penn's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Boiling Springs has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for William Penn, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Boiling Springs' sizable advantage in that area, the Bearcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
Boiling Springs took their victory against William Penn in their previous meeting back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 15-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bubblers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
