Softball Recap: Aurora Central Catholic Victorious

It's playoff time, and Aurora Central Catholic had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Marengo Indians on Friday. For the Chargers, this counts as revenge for the 6-3 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.

Corina Maratea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Grunloh, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of McKayla Edwards, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Aurora Central Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-20 record this season. As for Marengo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-18.

As of now, neither Aurora Central Catholic nor the Indians have any future games scheduled.
