Baseball Recap: Santana Wins Going Away Against Monte Vista

Santana barely beat Monte Vista the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sultans blew past the Monarchs 11-2 on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Sultans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Santana let Michael Morrison and Gavin Kelly run wild. Morrison went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Kelly got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Kelly is becoming a predictor of Santana's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 10-13 when he doesn't). Xander Bennett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Santana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

The win got Santana back to even at 13-13. As for Monte Vista, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-18.

Santana will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Monarchs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
