Softball Recap: Bertie Falcons vs. Camden County Bruins

Bertie had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-8 to make it four. They lost 18-1 to the Camden County Bruins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Tuesday.

As for Camden County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games.

For Camden County's part, Effie Drew made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave Drew a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Camden County got a massive performance out of Cailyn Phelps, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Phelps a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maisey Altman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Bertie wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 1-0 defeat against North East Carolina Prep on the 1st. As for Camden County, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Perquimans County at 6:00 p.m. on the 14th.
