Baseball Recap: Westlake Sets Scoring Season-High Against Newbury Park

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westlake). They had just enough and edged out the Newbury Park Panthers 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Connor Jacobson tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mason Charles was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Stead, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Westlake's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Newbury Park, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Westlake will have a chance to go back-to-back against Newbury Park: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
