Baseball Game Preview: Edinburgh Lancers vs. South Decatur Cougars

Edinburgh is 1-9 against South Decatur since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lancers will head out to square off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Edinburgh is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 18-1 to Indy Genesis HomeSchool.

Edinburgh got a good showing from Connor Scott, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Edinburgh saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Myers, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI. That hit was Myers' first of the season.

Meanwhile, South Decatur was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Greensburg, falling 16-1.

Corey Nugent put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Edinburgh's record now sits at 0-5. As for South Decatur, their record is now 0-3.

Edinburgh couldn't quite get it done against South Decatur when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
