Baseball Recap: Westchester Country Day Has No Trouble Against Caldwell Academy

Westchester Country Day had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Caldwell Academy on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Eagles. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Ashton Pittman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jesse Covington was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Westchester Country Day is 4-1 when Covington posts two or more runs, but 2-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kaline Burr-Ellis, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Westchester Country Day's record now sits at 6-11. As for Caldwell Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Caldwell Academy will challenge Carlisle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chiefs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Westchester Country Day will be paying especially close attention to Caldwell Academy's contest: after Caldwell Academy faces off against Carlisle, they'll take on Westchester Country Day again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
