Basketball Recap: Cesar E. Chavez Takes a Loss

If Cesar E. Chavez was feeling good fresh off their 70-38 takedown of Wisdom last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos had to suffer through an 83-39 loss at the hands of the Heights Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 883rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 272nd).

Cesar E. Chavez lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Grant Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 46.4% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Jason Tran, who posted seven points.

Heights found their leader in freshman Eric Ekwegbara, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Ekwegbara also set a new season-high mark in steals with three. Micah Malone was another key player, putting up 15 points and eight rebounds.

Cesar E. Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Heights, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-12.

Coming up, Cesar E. Chavez will head out on the road to take on Lamar at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Heights does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
