Football Game Preview: Victoria West Warriors vs. Veterans Memorial Patriots

The Victoria West Warriors will head out to take on the Veterans Memorial Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Veterans Memorial took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Victoria West, who comes in off a win.

Victoria West took a loss when they played away from home back in October, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They blew past Harlandale 59-17. With the Warriors ahead 30-10 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Nolan Boyce had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 340 yards and six TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 91 yards on only five carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 58 yards. Another player making a difference was Tristan Bernard, who picked up 110 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Victoria West didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Harlandale to a completion percentage of just 36.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Tay'Vian Peoples, Jd Kelly, and Evan Waters, who each logged one passes deflected. Victoria West has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.63 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.63 in their last three games.

Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 21-20 heartbreaker at the hands of Harlandale.

Victoria West's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Veterans Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Everything came up roses for Victoria West against Veterans Memorial in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 54-21 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
