Baseball Recap: Smethport Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Smethport ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Otto-Eldred Terrors 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-9 back in April.

Colin Riekofsky made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for Smethport: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-7 otherwise. Riekofsky was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Wyatt Hungiville was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

Smethport's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-7. As for Otto-Eldred, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

Smethport will square off against Bradford at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Otto-Eldred does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
