Soccer Game Preview: Columbus vs. Wharton

The Columbus Cardinals will face off against the Wharton Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Columbus will be strutting in after a win while Wharton will be coming in after a loss.

Columbus is headed into the contest having not lost since January 3 and will look to keep things rolling. Everything went their way against Calhoun on Friday as they made off with a 5-1 victory. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Columbus hit Calhoun with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Johnathan Velasquez Martinez (2), Jorge Mendoza, Mario Rubio, and Christian Martinez.

Meanwhile, Wharton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 8-0 to Bay City. While losing is never fun, Wharton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 834th, while Bay City are ranked 340th).

Wharton's loss dropped their record down to 0-10-1. As for Columbus, their win bumped their record up to 8-2-4.
