Softball Recap: Orting Has No Trouble Against Steilacoom

Orting won the last time they faced Steilacoom and things went their way on Friday too. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 24-1 margin over the Sentinels. That 23 run margin sets a new team best for the Cardinals this season.

Kathryn Prest was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Prest was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Madalynn Halte was incredible, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with six RBI, four runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Claire Carlson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Orting was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .652. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steilacoom only posted a batting average of .158.

The win got Orting back to even at 8-8-1. As for Steilacoom, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Orting is set to challenge their familiar foe Eatonville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Steilacoom will face off against rival Clover Park at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
