Baseball Recap: Hamilton Southeastern's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hamilton Southeastern proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by nine) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lawrence North Wildcats 4-2. Winning may never get old, but the Royals sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Johann Dierker tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Maddux Bach was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hamilton Southeastern's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-2 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cy Cole, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple.

Hamilton Southeastern's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-12. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lawrence North, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.

Coming up, Hamilton Southeastern will square off against Noblesville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lawrence North, they will challenge University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
