The Utica Chieftains will square off against the Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Utica is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Utica didn't have quite enough to beat Chippewa Valley and fell 5-3.

Utica saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jimmy Lasceski, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Grosse Pointe South entered their tilt with Roosevelt on Saturday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 11-2 win. While the Blue Devils didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Trey Grabowski made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Grabowski was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ben Kocik was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Henry Domzalski, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Grosse Pointe South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in three consecutive games.

Grosse Pointe South pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Utica, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
