Basketball Recap: Garinger Wildcats vs. Independence Patriots
The Garinger Wildcats lost against the Independence Patriots back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Garinger took a serious blow against the Patriots, falling 72-43. Garinger was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-16.
Despite the loss, Garinger still got an impressive performance from Misa Garris, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 60.5% of Garinger's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Imonee Patterson was another key contributor, scoring two points along with ten rebounds.
Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kamryn Kitchen, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Kitchen hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Moss, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Garinger has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for Independence, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Garinger will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Charlotte Catholic will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Independence, they will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Providence will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Patriots are ranked 17th).
