Football Recap: South Point Drops Highest Score of Season Against Monroe

South Point extended their postseason success on Friday against Monroe. They strolled past the Redhawks with points to spare, taking the game 61-42. The Red Raiders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading South Point to victory were Kaveaun Pless and Patrick Blee. Pless rushed for 220 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.6 yards per carry, while Blee rushed for 111 yards and six scores. Those 220 rushing yards gave Pless a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: South Point was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 410 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 215 rushing yards in eight consecutive games.

South Point didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Brody Crawford, Kham Crawford, and Cayden Rumph picked up one apiece. Rumph is on a roll when it comes to interceptions, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Several Redhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamir Jackson, who rushed for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries. Bryson Simpkins was another key player, picking up 75 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

South Point's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.6 points over those games. As for Monroe, they moved to 7-4 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, South Point will be playing at home against Crest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers' defense has only allowed 11.1 points per game this season, so the Red Raiders' offense will have their work cut out for them. Monroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
