Softball Recap: Benton Harbor Comes Up Short

Benton Harbor extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 15 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-9. They lost 16-0 to the Cassopolis Rangers. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Rangers when the teams met back in April of 2017, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Cassopolis, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Cassopolis' part, Maddy Yakel made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Yakel was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three runs.

In other batting news, Cassopolis got a big performance out of Chloe Dennis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Dennis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avery Alford, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

While Benton Harbor had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
