Recap: Lakewood Spartans vs. Chaminade-Madonna Lions
The Lakewood Spartans fell victim to the Chaminade-Madonna Lions''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Lions 57-0. While losing is never fun, Lakewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Chaminade-Madonna is ranked second).
It was another big night for Cedrick Bailey, who threw for 350 yards and four touchdowns while completing 84.2% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Smith, who picked up 189 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Lakewood to a paltry 92 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Chaminade-Madonna's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Zach Crothers and his two sacks.
This is the second loss in a row for Lakewood and nudges their season record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 Largo (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 90% over those games). As for Chaminade-Madonna, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Lakewood will head out on the road to face off against Calvary Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Calvary Christian's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games. Chaminade-Madonna will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Avant Garde Academy at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th.
