Softball Recap: Summersville Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Summersville unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Van Buren Bulldogs by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 15-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Riley Buttress spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Elizabeth Havens was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.

Looking ahead, Summersville will head out to take on Couch at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Van Buren, they will be playing at home against Clearwater at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
