Newton extended their winning streak to 14 on Friday, bumping their season record up to 14-0 in the process. They had just enough and edged out the Altamont Indians 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Indians since April 21, 2017.

As for Altamont, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but Newton's pitcher proved too tough.

For Altamont's part, Grace Lemke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Lemke has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will challenge Greenville at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Altamont, they will face off against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Altamont's pitchers better be ready for this one: Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg has averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
