Oscar Smith is 0-10 against Grassfield since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Tigers will take on the Grizzlies at 5:45 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Oscar Smith sitting on three straight wins and Grassfield on eight.
On Thursday, Oscar Smith made easy work of King's Fork and carried off a 13-5 victory.
Braden Copeland and Alex White made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Copeland tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, White struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Copeland has become a key player for Oscar Smith: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 5-6 otherwise. At bat, Copeland went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while White went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sean Brown, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jordan Scarborough also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Grassfield and Western Branch faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Thursday. The Grizzlies walked away with a 7-3 win over the Bruins.
Logan Shaw and Bryce Edick dominated on the mound. Shaw tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Edick pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Shaw has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Christian Coley, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Hayden Roach, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Oscar Smith pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Grassfield, their record now sits at 12-5.
Oscar Smith came up short against Grassfield in their previous meeting back in March, falling 9-4. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
