Burney and Loyalton are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2019, but not for long. The Raiders are taking a road trip to challenge the Grizzlies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Burney took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Plumas Charter with points to spare, taking the game 34-20. Considering the Raiders' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Liam Von Schalscha had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 258 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 11.7 yards per carry, and also picking up 39 receiving yards and one touchdown. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Killian Biles was in the mix as well, providing Burney with two TDs.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Burney's defense and their three sacks. Jessie Gemmill refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Burney got some further help from Alexander Vargas: he forced one fumble and made 18 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Loyalton and Tulelake, and Loyalton kept the tradition alive. The Grizzlies really took it to the Honkers for the full four quarters, racking up a 38-8 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 24-0.

Loyalton's win came from a few key players Burney will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Blaine Morgan, who rushed for 186 yards and one score while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending three passes. Brysyn Lake also helped out as he racked up 104 rushing yards.

Loyalton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.7 points on average over those games. As for Burney, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3.

Burney came up short against Loyalton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 28-22.
