Basketball Game Preview: Memorial Red Devils vs. Smithville Smithies

The Memorial Red Devils will face off against the Smithville Smithies at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Memorial is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 60-19, which was the final score in Memorial's tilt against Mineral Ridge on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 797th, while the Rams are ranked 245th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Mileesa Williams, who posted three points and five boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in rebounds.

Meanwhile, Smithville blew past Danville, posting a 58-24 win. The Smithies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Smithville pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points over those games. As for Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-19.
