Basketball Recap: Northwest Extends Winning Streak to Five

Northwest proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 42) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Adams Central Patriots, sneaking past 62-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since February 8, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Adams Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hunter Nepple posted 24 points. That was a full 40% of Adams Central's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Austin Vontz was another key player, putting up 14 points.

The win was the fifth in a row for Northwest, bringing their record for this year to 9-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Adams Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Northwest will take on North Platte at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Adams Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Doniphan-Trumbull at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
