Basketball Game Preview: ThunderRidge Grizzlies vs. Douglas County Huskies

ThunderRidge is a perfect 10-0 against Douglas County since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The ThunderRidge Grizzlies will host the Douglas County Huskies at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in ThunderRidge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.

ThunderRidge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Mountain Vista, who was ranked eighth at the time (ThunderRidge was ranked seventh). ThunderRidge walked away with a 66-58 victory over Mountain Vista on Friday.

ThunderRidge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aman Binu, who posted 16 points. Those 16 points gave Binu a new career-high. Sam Walkowiak was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Meanwhile, Douglas County came up short against Castle View on Friday and fell 62-49. While the Huskies didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Sabercats 19-6 in the first quarter.

ThunderRidge will have to contain Roman Saiz as he made an impact in Douglas County's last game. He put up 12 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Saiz has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Henry Shoemaker, who earned eight points and seven rebounds.

ThunderRidge is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points over those games. As for Douglas County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

ThunderRidge beat Douglas County 76-63 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Will ThunderRidge repeat their success, or does Douglas County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
