Football Recap: Rio Grande City Takes a Loss

Rio Grande City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Veterans Memorial Chargers, falling 53-27. While losing is never fun, the Rattlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 983rd, while the Chargers are ranked 309th).

As for Veterans Memorial, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Veterans Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Calvin Trevillion led the charge by rushing for 217 yards and four TDs on only eight carries. Trevillion's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Cesar Belmontes was another key back, rushing for 186 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries.

Rio Grande City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 49-14 loss against McAllen Memorial on the 19th. As for Veterans Memorial, they have also already played their next game, a 20-17 victory against Alexander on the 19th.
