Basketball Game Preview: Oakhaven Hawks vs. Hillcrest Vikings

Oakhaven hasn't had much luck against Hillcrest recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Oakhaven Hawks will take on the Hillcrest Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Oakhaven knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matches -- so hopefully Hillcrest likes a good challenge.

On Monday, Oakhaven beat Westwood 66-54.

It was another big night for Amari Spates, who posted 25 points. His big performance that evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Deener, who scored 12 points.

Meanwhile, Hillcrest came tearing into two weeks ago's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Longhorns with points to spare, taking the game 88-69.

Hillcrest's win came from a few key players Oakhaven will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jerrell Miller, who dropped a double-double with 36 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Ja'Coby Lewis, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten assists.

Hillcrest pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.3 points. As for Oakhaven, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.

Oakhaven came up short against Hillcrest in their previous matchup on February 4th, falling 76-69. Can Oakhaven avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
