Basketball Recap: West Carteret Skates Past Havelock with Ease

West Carteret entered their tilt with Havelock on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Havelock Rams 62-31. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Rams are ranked 384th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Havelock lost, don't look at Lanai Brantley. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Timayah Brown, who put up eight points.

West Carteret's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for Havelock, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

West Carteret didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-38 win against New Bern on the 31st. As for Havelock, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on D.H. Conley at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd.
