Softball Game Preview: Charles Henderson Trojans vs. Kinston Bulldogs

The Charles Henderson Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Kinston Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Wednesday, Charles Henderson was able to grind out a solid victory over LAMP, taking the game 11-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

The team relied heavily on Keirstin Gamble, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Calleigh Compton, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kinston, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Slocomb with a sharp 15-0 win on Tuesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kinston's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Charles Henderson, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.

Charles Henderson couldn't quite finish off Kinston in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 12-10. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
