Softball Recap: Paul VI Wins Going Away Against St. John's

After only two runs in their last matchup, Paul VI made sure to put some runs up on the board against St. John on Saturday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Cadets. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Giovanna Gottfried made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Gottfried wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Long, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was McKenna Drawbaugh, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Paul VI has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for St. John's, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Paul VI didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-12 loss against Our Lady of Good Counsel on the 13th. St. John's has also already played their next game (against Elizabeth Seton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
