Basketball Game Preview: Mantachie Mustangs vs. Falkner Eagles

After both having extra time off, the Mantachie Mustangs and the Falkner Eagles will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Friday, Mantachie came up short against Walnut and fell 64-52. The Mustangs have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Falkner also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Mount Paran Christian by a score of 63-55. Falkner has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mantachie will have to contain Elijah Mauney as he made an impact in Falkner's last game. He went 10 of 20 on his way to 27 points and five rebounds. That was a full 49.1% of Falkner's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Nunley, who put up 14 points and five steals.

Falkner now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Mantachie, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Mantachie came up short against Falkner when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 59-53. Thankfully for Mantachie, Rodrigo Ruedas (who went 8 of 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
