Softball Recap: Make It 18 in a Row for Hughes Springs

Hughes Springs waltzed into their contest on Friday with 17 straight wins... but they left with 18. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Jefferson Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.

Hughes Springs' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-11.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hughes Springs will face off against rival New Diana at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 2, the Eagles 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Jefferson is set to square off against their familiar foe Daingerfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
