Football Game Preview: KIPP Collegiate phoenix vs. Middleton Tigers

The KIPP Collegiate phoenix will challenge the Middleton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. KIPP Collegiate has given up an average of 30.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

KIPP Collegiate managed to slip by Oakhaven the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The phoenix came up short against the Hawks on Friday, falling 40-20. The phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kevin Garnett put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 35 yards. An impressive showing, but he really ramped things up playing D: he made eight total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.

Even if they lost, KIPP Collegiate's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Christopher Farris with two. He has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last seven times he's played. Garnett got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous five matchup, Middleton brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They blew past Booker T. Washington 31-8 last Friday. Considering the Tigers' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Middleton's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for KIPP Collegiate, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-5.

Everything came up roses for KIPP Collegiate against Middleton in their previous matchup back in September of 2016, as the squad secured a 64-7 win. In that game, the phoenix amassed a halftime lead of 48-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
