Thomasville barely beat South Davidson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 14-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matchups by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Matthew Bankhead made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Thomasville is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 5-8 otherwise. Bankhead was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Thomasville got a massive performance out of Iyzir Black, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The Bulldogs are undefeated when Black posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mkyel Duncan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Thomasville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Davidson struck out eight times.
Thomasville's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for South Davidson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
