Football Game Preview: Poteet Pirates vs. Kaufman Lions + How To Watch

The Poteet Pirates will challenge the Kaufman Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Poteet has given up an average of 41.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Poteet is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Corsicana on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Pirates lost 49-28 to the Tigers. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kyler Cornelious, who picked up 224 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another passer making a difference was Isaiah Hall, who threw for 381 yards and three TDs while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt.

Meanwhile, Kaufman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. The contest between the Lions and Crandall didn't end well, with the Lions falling 49-35. While the Lions had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Pirates 28-21.

Poteet will have to keep a close watch on Elijah Rose and Devin Fivecoat, a pair of players who had a big impact on Kaufman's prior game. Rose gained 125 total yards, while Fivecoat threw for 246 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes. A healthy portion of Fivecoat's aerial production (96 yards to be exact) went to Aljour Miles Ii.

Kaufman's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Poteet, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-4.

Poteet and Kaufman were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but Poteet suffered an agonizing 28-27 loss.
