Softball Recap: Rifle Starts off Right with Win over Monarch

Rifle took care of business in their home opener on Saturday. They walked away with an 11-8 win over the Monarch Coyotes. The Bears have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Coyotes, too.

Rifle got a massive performance out of Brynn Axelson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Axelson has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Petree, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Rifle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monarch only posted a batting average of .214.

Monarch's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Rifle will welcome Meeker at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monarch, they will venture away from home to challenge Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
