Recap: Columbus Cardinals vs. Giddings Buffaloes
The Columbus Cardinals came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They pulled ahead with a 36-35 photo finish over Giddings. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Columbus also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2016.
Columbus' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karlee Mathis, who scored 13 points. The matchup was Mathis' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anaya Gardner, who scored nine points.
Columbus' win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Giddings, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Columbus will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Flatonia at 12:00 p.m. on December 9th. Flatonia is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. As for Giddings, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Manor New Tech at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Manor New Tech's defense has only allowed 24.2 points per game this season, so Giddings' offense will have their work cut out for Giddings.
