Softball Recap: Shepherd Gets the Win

Shepherd won the last time they faced Gladwin and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bluejays came out on top against the Flying G's by a score of 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bluejays.

Elise McDonald made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Leela Engelhardt was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Avery Veale was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Shepherd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Shepherd's win bumped their record up to 14-7-1. As for Gladwin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shepherd will face off against Gaylord at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gladwin, they will challenge Farwell at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
